10 Deathmatch arenas for Doom
This Deathmatch pack is for fans of old school and new school Doom deathmatch as well as all fans of arena shooters or classic FPS games. If you played Skulltag in the late 2000’s and early 2010’s, you will feel at home with this combination of level design and content.
These levels are the culmination of the best level design work I’ve completed since 2010, brought up to a visual standard that enhances the gameplay, memorability, and fun of each environment.
Play alone in the campaign with pre-defined Skulltag/Zandronum bots (or define your own in an offline skirmish), or play with friends and strangers. Each arena is medium/large-sized to accompany a range of 2-10+ players. It may get chaotic at larger player counts, so I recommend increasing the Frag Limit to something like 100 when setting up your match.
- 10 brand new deathmatch levels
- New campaign added to the New Game menu for getting into the fun as quickly as possible
- Original theme music when booting up the WAD
- Custom midis for most levels featuring some of my favorite songs and bands
- New “win” and “lose” tracks that metalheads will surely enjoy
- A new Pentagram Quad-Damage power-up that fits with the Doom lore and gives max health and armor (Move over Q from Quake and Doomsphere from Skulltag)
- Revisit your favorite weapons from Skulltag: the minigun, the grenade launcher, and the railgun!
- Altered color palette for much better blues
- Custom textures you’re used to seeing, and brand new custom textures that mesh with vanilla Doom textures
- Custom decorations that are Doom lore friendly
- Ambient sounds designed to make the world feel more alive compared to the majority of other multiplayer Doom WADs
- A few classic sounds replaced due to them being boring/quiet or over-played (I’m looking at you Plasma Rifle)

How to Play
You must own Doom 2 for the PC and you must have Zandronum installed. Read the basic setup guide below for more information.
I highly recommend having the following WADs in your */Zandronum/Skins folder
STAnnouncerPack.pk3 — A compilation of all the announcers from Skulltag
Download from DoomHell / Original Link
STSkinsV2.pk3 — A compilation of all the player skins from Skulltag
Download from DoomHell / Original Link
Basic Setup Guide
Step 1: Buy Doom II
Skip the step if you already have Doom II from an online retailer or a physical release. Follow the following links to purchase Doom II from an online retailer. If you’re looking for a physical release, I would search for the “Doom Collector’s Edition Triology” CD on eBay or Amazon (used, see photo below), but I wouldn’t spend over $20 USD for it.
Doom II at Bethesda.com ($5 USD)
Doom II at HumbleStore ($5 USD and charity options, redeemable on Steam)
Doom II at Steam ($5 USD)
Doom II + Final Doom at GOG ($10 USD)
Step 2: Download and Install Zandronum
Zandronum is a multiplayer engine (source-port) for Doom and other Doom-like games. It is the spiritual successor to Skulltag. Zandronum enables you to play online easily and join a community of other Doomers.
Download Zandronum from Zandronum.com
You can install this in the default path, but I highly suggest creating a Doom folder for yourself somewhere like C:/Doom. The rest of this guide will assume you installed Zandronum to C:/Doom.
Go to your purchased Doom II folder/CD and copy the file named “Doom2.wad” to your C:/Doom folder. This is the only file we need. It contains all of the assets Doom II utilizes. Zandronum will supply the programming to run the game.
Copy blackened-dm-v1.pk3 to your C:/Doom folder as well.
Create a folder named “Skins” in your C:/Doom folder.
Place STAnnouncerPack.pk3 and STSkinsV2.pk3 inside C:/Doom/Skins. This is going to allow us to use a better announcer, allow you to pick a custom skin in single player, and allow you to see the Skulltag/Zandronum bots’ skins.
Drag and drop blackened-dm-v1.pk3 onto Zandronum.exe and start playing!
